Truly a sub-tropical paradise, this tiny corner of England has remained unpolluted, unspoilt and unchanged for decades. Tresco lies just 28 miles from the Cornish coast yet basks in a balmy climate where spring comes early, autumn stays late and winter hardly exists at all. The wonderful Abbey Gardens is home to more than 3,000 species and magnificent vistas, colours and scents. There is certainly no other garden like this in the world. Even in winter there are 300 plants in flower in the Abbey Gardens and as each day lengthens more and more exotic flowers appear. In the spring you will see flowers here that are weeks ahead of those on the mainland, the perfect way to lift your spirits after a cold, dark winter. Autumn, too, is a stunning time to visit, with the beautiful golden, reds and ambers of the seasonal foliage against a backdrop of proteas, aloes and flowering camellias thrown in for good measure. The New Inn
Our accommodation on Tresco will be at the popular 4-star ETB/AA graded New Inn – one of only 12 pubs in Cornwall listed in the new “Eating Out in Pubs” Michelin guide. There is a friendly bustling atmosphere here and all rooms are en-suite and are comfortably furnished. There is a separate residents’ bar and a heated outdoor pool which is open May to September (weather permitting). Just four days here will leave you feeling renewed and revitalised!
For more information please look at the Tresco website: http://tresco.co.uk/Extended stays at the New Inn are also available and we can organise breaks to Tresco outside the dates shown.
We can also tailor make holidays to the neighbouring islands of Bryher, St Mary’s and St Martin’s – ask for details.
To take the strain out of the long drive to Penzance we have arranged train transportation from London Paddington departing at 10.05hrs* - due to arrive in Penzance at 15.10hrs*. - what a pleasant way to cross the south of England. For passengers wishing to travel from other mainline stations or who wish a first-class upgrade, please contact our reservations department for assistance on 01334 657155. On arrival in Penzance you will be transferred to Land’s End in time for your flight to the Scillies, which only takes 15 minutes. On St Mary’s you will be taken to the quayside for a short boat transfer to Tresco. After being welcomed at the New Inn and shown to your room you are free to relax and enjoy the exceptional views.
Day 2 & 3
On the first morning a visit to the Abbey Gardens is included. Subject to minimum numbers there will be guided walks around the magnificent gardens and the Valhalla collection of ship's figureheads with the head gardener and his staff.
You are then free to explore Tresco at your leisure - the ancient castles, beautiful beaches, headland walks, browse in the gallery or simply relax in the resident’s lounge. Visiting other islands can easily be arranged - Bryher, St Martins, St Agnes and St Mary’s. One of the joys of the Scillies is the fact that all the islands easily interact with each other. Regular boat trips are available to see the sea birds and seals of the Western rocks, and if you are feeling adventurous, it is sometimes possible to circumnavigate Bishop's Rock lighthouse.
Sadly it is time to leave Tresco, and a morning boat will take us to St Mary’s for our return flight to Land’s End. On arrival we will be transferred to Penzance in time for our afternoon train back to Paddington due to arrive at approx 18.30hrs*.
*Please note train times at this stage are provisional - exact times will be confirmed with your joining instructions approximately ten days prior to departure.
