Gardens and Palaces of India
Summary
Prepare for an assault on the senses as we plunge into the vibrant, chaotic, other-world that is India. In Delhi, the teeming capital city, we see contrasts of old and new as we take a rickshaw ride through the 500 year-old city, with visits to Humayun’s Tomb and the museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a stimulating day that features the Garden of the Five Senses. Continuing by train (an experience in itself) to Agra we visit the Red Fort and, of course, the Taj Mahal - enjoying stunning views at both sunset and sunrise. We discover the amazing Abhanri stepwell before continuing to Jaipur. Here we tour the impressive Amber Fort and visit the elegant gardens of the Rambagh Palace, with both Oriental and Mughal gardens, which contrast with the Persian style of gardens we find at Sisodia Palace. Moving on to Jodhpur we enjoy walks through the bustling bazaars and markets, a uniquely colourful and fragrant experience, and explore the charming Mandore Gardens with a variety of flora and some chattering monkeys. We conclude in Udaipur, where we see an incredible Hindu temple, locations from a Bond film and the treasures of the Jagmandir Island Palace.
